    LGT!!!
Since Bill brought this up in the What is a successful season thread guess we can start early speculating about 2008-2009. Here is something I posted on USCHO in a similar thread.

    Clarkson University

Graduation Losses: Clitsome D, Zalewski C, Arciero RW, Cayer RW, Dodge RW, Leggio G

Early Departures: Hopefully no one but Guthrie and Paquet have the most talent and were in Pro Camps last summer.

    Top Returners: Guthrie F , Paquet D, Beca F, D'Alvise F and Mason D

    Rookies: Jake Morley-C, Paul Karpowich-G, Mark Borowiecki-LD, Nick Tremblay-LC, Corey Tamblyn-RC, Louke Oakley-RW, Julien Cayer-LW

Outlook: Probably one of the premier recruiting classes in the last 15 years at Clarkson is leaving and that is gonna leave a huge void this coming year. Most notably Clitsome on defense, Dodge for his leadership and faceoff ability, Zalewski for his scoring and Leggio in goal. As the Freshmen go so will the fortunes of this team. George Roll and company have recruited speed in Tremblay, Tamblyn, Oakley and Cayer up front, a top notch defenseman in Borowiecki and a goaltender in Karpowich. Unfortunately Tremblay had his jaw broken in the CJHL playoffs so that may set him back come next year.

Prediction: This team is will probably hit some rough spots early in the year as the Rookies become acclamated to Div I play. Beca, Guthrie and D'Alvise are gonna have to step up their production from this year. Goaltending is gonna come down to Potter and Karpowich. One of them is gonna have to step up big time. This will be a pretty young team overall so a 3rd or 4th place finish in the ECAC would probably be a pretty good year.

Vic, I did the same thing without noticing yours first. Good thing is that it won't post on USCHO for some reason.

    Clarkson University

Losses (graduation): Nick Dodge (C), Steve Zalewski (C), Grant Clitsome (D), David Cayer (RW), Mike Arciero (F), David Leggio (G).
Losses (early departure): None that I can reasonably expect.
Key Returnees: Chris D'Alvise (C), Shea Guthrie (RW), Tyrell Mason (D), Matt Beca (F)
Incoming Recruits: Nick Tremblay (F, Smith Falls), Julien Cayer (F, Northwood), Jake Morley (F, Northwood), Corey Tamblyn (F, Markham), Louke Oakley (F, St. Michaels), Mark Borowiecki (D, Smith Falls), Paul Karpowich (G, Wellington)

Outlook: Clarkson has lost one of the best recruiting classes in school history to graduation, one which put the team back on the national stage. Coach Roll has a fine group of freshmen coming in and it at least seems to me that he is looking to build a team with more speed that can compete against the western schools consistently. The season may likely come down to defense and goaltending. It will be up to either Tim Potter, who has shown the ability to play at D-1 in limited play, or Karpowich manning the net. Clitsome is tough to replace on defense, but I am expecting big improvement from Rufenach and immediate contribution from Borowiecki.

Prediction: I think the first half of the season is going to be full of bumps but the team could be prepared for a second half surge. With Princeton returning a strong team and Harvard, RPI, and Cornell all improving, I would look for the Golden Knights to finish anywhere from 2nd to 6th in the regular season. Since that's a big gap, my official prediction is 3rd in regular season and an ECACH championship in Albany.

I guess this is what the offseason is for... to speculate wildly with predictions that don't mean much at this point. That being said for reality I'll throw out 4-5th in conference and third place in Albany and not too far from the bubble talk for the NCAAs.

Scoring dropped off this past year and I don't expect it to pick up this year. The D should be solid, but who knows if the goalies will steal games for us yet over the long haul.

I would set the bar though as winning in Albany. I don't think that's ever an unreasonable goal in this conference.

We will compete for the last first round bye next year, but I don't think we will be a top 3 team. Right now I would guess:

        1. Cornell
        2. Harvard
        3. Princeton
        4. RPI
        5. Clarkson
        6. Quinnipiac
        7. Yale
        8. SLU
        9. Union
        10. Colgate
        11. Brown
        12. Dartmouth
If I don't see you in the future, I'll see you in the pasture.

          RS Prediction: 4th....
          Lines:
          F:
          D'Alvise/Trombley*/Beca
          Cayer*/Tamblyn*/Guthrie
          Freeman/Marks/Oakley*
          DeFazio/Tuttle/Willemsen

          Tuohimaa, Daddario, Kosziwka, Marshall, Morley*

          D:
          Mason/Rufenach
          Borowiecki*/Paquet
          Pizzo/Bellows

          Crowe, Reed

          G:
          Karpowich/Potter

          *Freshmen

Stats: losing 37% of the total offense and 54% of the PP points with the departing senior class.

Hoping Tamblyn is a decent faceoff specialist. Inexperienced up the gut.

I would think this is pretty typical of departing senior classes. Anyone want to dig deeper to find out for sure?

            So like what 3 goals?
Seriously though, we need a better PP next year and that should be a team goal as well.

This is a tough one - unknown goalie performance, unknown PP & scoring performance, loss of an AA defenseman, and so on. Will likely compete for home ice in the ECAC's, might make Albany, don't see'em making the 2A's - a rebuilding year, I'm afraid, even though I'm hoping for a reloading year. '09/10 will show improvement vs '08/09.

Right on Otter, the powerplay was awful this year. Fortunately everyone else's powerplay was pretty crappy too. We weren't bad on the penalty kill, and our penalty minutes were way down too. Maybe next year we won't run the same powerplay over and over again even when it's not working.

Mike, you accidently left out Freeman at forward. I believe he played on the same line as Oakley two years ago in OPJHL, so they might click on the same line at Tech.

Sheesh...I thought the Knights had more depth!...not sure how I'd miss Freeman!
Put him on the 3rd line with Oakley. Dropping Tuohimaa to 4th, platooning with DeFazio.

I'm curious why no one has even mentioned Wyse in goal. Does everyone simply assume him to be the third stringer or am I missing something here?

I don't know a darn thing about Wyse honestly. The reason I don't mention him is simple... when George was asked about next year, he mentioned Potter and Karpowich. As such, I'm taking the hint that Wyse is a 3rd stringer.

I am honestly not sure what to expect for next year. I think we can compete in the ECACH, and nationally to a degree.

I guess we should be happy if we make Albany. If we make it to Albany and don't win it the ECACH it will be hard for me to not think of it as a major disappointment.

next Year I could see us playing possibly doing something similar to what Notre Dame did this year, Cinderellaing our way to the frozen four. but I don't really expect it.

I think Wyse should be given a chance, he could truly be our dark horse.

I have seen him in practice and actually think he is better than Potter and should be given a serious look.
