  • And that's where we stand after 1. Catterall takes a 5 minute major late but was not a misconduct.

    • 5 min Major on Tech 30 sec left in Period Home

So far UMD faster getting to pucks and spending much time in Tech zone

Clarkson passing not on the mark no sustained time in UMD .zone

        • About 12 minutes to go, down 2-0. Not looking good at all, we have a total of 11 shots on net.

          • 1:24 to go, Pasiechnyk to the bench still trailing Duluth 2-0. Still look exhausted from last weekend.

            • UMD with the 2-0 win. Another one and done for the ladies. Duluth was just simply the better team. Another game where we showed no energy whatsoever. Another good season in the books, and we will see if we are in for more in the 2023-24 season.

              • Tough when you have to kill off 14 minutes in penalties to their 2. Takes A LOT out of a team. To still be in that game in that situation says something. 5v5 it was a pretty even hockey game. First goal, our girl lost track of her girl and it ended up in the back of the net. 2nd goal was at tail end of 2nd 5 minute major. Cherkowski also got DQ’d and so would not have been available for Minny

It's been feast or famine all year in the goal scoring department. One thing toknight, very uncharacteristic in the number of penalties (especially the two 5 min penalties). Anytime you make the NC$$ tourney makes it a good season. See what happens next year. Have Petrie and Frenette coming back to help with the scoring but will really miss David B McQuigge and Lappin up front and Markowski on the blueline. Maybe we can snag a couple of players from the Portal.

David, McQuigge, Markowski, etc can still come back with that covid grad year. Let's hope some of them use it here.

Fairly certain all are coming back. Lappan can also come back and I believe she is as well. Should be able to make a little more noise next year!

The only one we really lose is Hanson, because she's already a grad student. Petrie should be able to come back from the medical redshirt.

                        • A disappointing game to end the season but all in all a successful season and career for our seniors.

One thing I've learned as an NCAA baseball official is that they usually make their training videos from NCAA tournament games and they look for plays that highlight their points of emphasis. If you're on the video for a play that "should have been called but wasn't", you're not getting a better assignment anytime soon. Players have to realize that the officials are going to be acutely aware of the "dangerous" fouls and more major penalties are going to be called in the tournament.

This is actually very true on the men’s side. The ECAC teams struggle when they get to the NCAA tourney because officials are calling everything whereas in league play they can get away with more.

I was referring specifically to the points of emphasis. If you watch the NCAA hockey officiating video every year, they almost always talk about the hits that are unsafe. They'll be called in the NCAA tournament every time.

I think ECAC men's teams struggle because of the speed of teams, especially in the NCHC and HEA. That leads to more hooking and interference calls, when the ECAC brand of play usually doesn't have as many teams built with speed. The NC teams from Union and (especially) Yale were fast teams and were able to overcome some of the issues ECAC teams usually have in the NC tournament. Harvard is built that way this year; we shall see what happens with them.
