Good for McFaul, there was nothing wrong and everything right with that hit. It shows how the game has changed. Coming over the blueline with your head down should result in exactly that. It wasn't to the head and the kid popped right up, so Iwill be very dissapointed with the sport if anything comes of it. Quite frankly, shouldn't have even been 2 min.

Dano,
I think alot of the decision on whether it was a penalty or not comes from which type of hockey you are used to. I watch 90% college and 10% professional and whenever I see a professional game, I'm amazed at what the officials let go which is called "hitting from behind" in the college game. The officials in the college game seem to be more protective and call more hits into the boards, and those calls have become more protective in the recent years. Perhaps the NCAA is employing the mentality of many mens leagues in that the players "need to get up on Monday and make it to class" (in men's leagues it is work).
I watched the hit live and McFaul should have been in the box 2 minutes. If there is no 2 minute penalty for contact to the head, then boarding might also work. It did not warrant a 5-minute nor a game ending misconduct.
My biggest beef in college hockey is how come offensive players always seem to be on their knees or flatter whenever there is a pile-uo in front of the goal-tender, while the defensive players seem to be standing all over the place. Is there a golden rule that tripping, hacking and cross-checking are allowed if the puck is loose in front of the goalie? I've seen many more contacts to the head and upper back there than what McFaul was called for...

College Hockey News has a write-up on Clarkson as their team of the week:
Team of the Week: Clarkson : College Hockey News
Happy Thanksgiving to all. The old geezers out there might remember when Clarkson hosted its own tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. I think it was a round-robin affair, 4 teams, everyone played each other, best record was the tournament winner.

Saw the famous Jim Corsi play for Concordia one year. I believe Concordia won the tournament the year he played.
BTW, Potsdam St. and Canton have resurrected the North Country Tournament. Visiting teams are Hamilton and Stonehill. It looks like 2 games with the visitors playing the hosts. Games are Saturday & Sunday.

Heading to Princeton on Friday knight to see the first live Clarkson game of the season. Thankfully, they've been playing somewhat better. I'll be missing the game at QU for the first time in a decade because I have commitments with my fire department and our town's tree lighting ceremony.

There are 50 voters in the uscho poll. Clarkson got 3 votes, which means that either one voter put us at 18, or two voters put us at 19 and 20, or (probably most likely) 3 voters put us at 20. I think that's how it works. I don't believe that anyone who covers Clarkson (or SLU for that matter) votes in the poll.
