  • Tech up 10 places in pairwise to # 31 after winning Tournament

    Comment

    • Just walked past the Yale & Merrimack's mens teams here in Hanover as I walked to and from downtown. Yale seems really small. I'm 5'4" and they were not much bigger than I am. It was weird. I don't know if males just are not physically maturing like they used to (in the 90s) or what. They could've been a HS team size-wise. They were short and skinny. They also wouldn't make space for me on the sidewalk, the no-mannered schmucks. Merrimack seems bigger.
      Happy New Year to all.

But dropped down to 37 after last night's results, I assume due to ECAC's just so-so results out of conference (Union, Qpak, Colgate and SLU had wins, the rest not so much). All the ECAC teams have games this weekend except for Clarkson and Brown, I believe.

        • Sorry for the self-serving post here, but does anyone have any ties with SLU where I might be able to secure 2 tickets to the CCT-SLU game at Appleton in late January? My wife wanted to get me a weekend away to see the CCT-SLU series for Christmas. I've been able to secure tickets for the game at Cheel but Appleton has been a tougher nut to crack.

Call Clarkson Ticket office they usually have family tix for players and if unused you may be able to secure a pair.

              • Just got home to see a 1-1 tie, but a Knights shootout win. Richardson with the only regulation goal, while Gosselin & Romano scored in the shootout. Haider with a good night with 29 saves. Really could've used the win, but big weekend upcoming on the road at Harvard & Dartmouth.

Playing down to the level of the competition...a hallmark in the program. We watched the girls game and listened to the men's and it seems like hockey's changed where more shots are coming from the goal-line angles than out in front, which are much lower percentage shots. I can't say this was the case in the men's game but it was for the ladies making the brownie goalie look awesome.

As for other news, have you seen who is leading the Minnesota Mavericks in scoring this year with 15 GOALS? None other than David Silye who somehow didn't gel with the program/staff. Good for David.

                      • Interesting about David Silye's development, he had 0 goals and only 3 assists in 17 games with Clarkson in 2020-21. One who hasn't fared as well is Jacob Mucitelli, he gave Haider a run for his money last year, but he's again in the backup role, this season with Maine, played in 4 games early on, 4.83 gaa, 82.4 saves percentage.

Pairwise so far is favoring ECAC over Hockey East. In the top 15 (i.e. the NCAA tourney field), ECAC has Qpak at 2, Harvard at 9, and Cornell at 11, whereas Hockey East has BU at 8 and Merrimack at 10.

Trying to manipulate the pairwise by scheduling inferior programs does not work. It especially backfires when you lose non conference games to weak opponents and your conference turns out to be weak too. Clarkson has the 45th ranked strength of schedule out of 62 teams. What good player would or
"family advisor" would want their kid there? looks like somebody is more interested in keeping his job than developing a quality program.
and don't hit me with the tired we can't compete with those guys line. Plenty of schools with one D1 sport in smaller markets have hockey success.

                          • Another disappointing effort against Holy Cross. I know absolutely nothing about coaching hockey, but going out and beating UMass and Wisconsin (even if they had players at the WJC) and then struggling to tie Holy Cross is something the coaching should be able to avoid. Maybe I'm spoiled because the team I'm able to watch most consistently (Army) goes out every night and gives it their all for Coach Riley. Heck, they even managed to tie a ranked Providence College this past weekend.

I'm really sick of everything that Casey brings to this program, including, as mentioned before, playing a weak schedule to help protect his job. While its true that the top NCHC teams generally won't schedule schools like Clarkson regularly, there's no reason why we can't get in with the upper echelon teams in the B1G, HEA, or WCHA.

Actually, there is. Many of those teams refuse to schedule a "home and home" (same as their football teams, weird...) with teams like Clarkson (and SLU, RPI, etc.). Why should we be constantly only playing on the road vs. these teams? Does it really benefit us to schedule a game like this (and saddle all the costs like transportation) and get nothing in return?

                              • Well, if "getting" better doesn't matter than than bring on all the Holy Crosses, Sacred Hearts and Lake Superior States you can play.
The ''benefit" is having a battle tested team that is used to playing hard games against good teams. Then you don't fold at the end of the year against
teams that have less talent that you should beat. Sound familiar?
