  • Good luck against Cornell!!! When you knock them off, you will be accomplishing two things. First, you will kick them out of Lake Placid. Secondly, you will knock them out of consideration for the NCAA tournament. Relish the chance. Savour the thought.

        • Down 1-0 after 2. Getting killed all the way around. Mobley takes a 5 minute major and misconduct early and that lead to their goal. Maybe 3 shots on net.

Did I miss a period? Mobley penalty was stupid but it was not a 5, Shafer is a master manipulator.

            • Still down 1-0, this time actually through 2. Boring period all around, struggling to do anything.

              • And a 2-1 loss. Decided not to wake up until late in the game and it was too late. Gosselin with the goal midway through the 3rd. Haider kept the team in here tonight, other than that nothing else positive to say. Season on the line tomorrow night.

                • Other than the major penalty, this was a very evenly played game. If anything, Clarkson had the better of play 5 v. 5 except for the few minutes following the major penalty. What Clarkson couldn't generate was scoring chances, which is a staple of the Cornell game (and Clarkson's too as the teams are traditionally similarly styled under their current coaches). Cornell out-chanced Clarkson although the play was pretty even.

The major penalty was absolutely a major penalty per NCAA rules. It wasn't intentional, but when you get your stick up to cross-check and it gets the opponent's head, you're going to be disqualified.

Haider's career at Clarkson may come to an end at Lynah tomorrow but if it does, it won't be due to his efforts. He was the best player on the ice tonight for either team.

Well, if they are going to nail Mobley for that stupid penalty, then they missed a boarding or hitting from behind about 2 minutes into the game which would have put Cornell down a man very early on. CJ and Joe are usually very good head officials, but then I guess that even officials can have very bad nights. Sad, though, that has a huge impact on the outcome.

Some say Mobley's penalty wasn't a 5 but I said it before the whistle blew. Very dumb penalty by one of the teams under-performers of the year. He should be done and place Grannis in there for the rest of the year...whatever that means.

One last thing...after 35-some odd games and at least 100 practices, how impressed were you with the Clarkson power-play?

If the end happens this weekend, can we depart Ithaca with one less designer of that "power"-play getting on the bus? Might be the best present the North Country receives this year!

                    • We had four straight power plays in the 2nd and 3rd and got nothing from them, well maybe one on the delayed call. On one pp, I remember seeing 4 Clarkson guys trying to move the puck out of our end and one Cornell forechecker stopping them. We got killed on faceoffs, 30-16. Liked our speed but Cornell's stick/puck control was far superior.

                      • Does anyone know where we can find the game to rewatch a sequence? Specifically looking for the second Cornell goal.

If you have ESPN+, just do a search for Clarkson. You should find it.

Is that the goal where the puck might have touched a Cornell player on the bench and the play should have been called dead? And all four officials on the ice didn't see it, so the play had to be challenged by Clarkson and reviewed but the camera angle wasn't the greatest. You would hope that if it really hit a Cornell player on the bench then he would admit to it, or maybe not.

Any inside scoop on whether Mathieu Gosselin returns for a post-grad year? I'm assuming the season ends tonight but hope I'm wrong.

                            • Talent is not the issue, a below .500 season relative to the expectations makes this 2nd round 2-0 playoff exit even more frustrating. I know at this point we aren’t a great team, but I do we feel we have some good individuals, and it’s puzzling why we are so bad given we didn’t even play a good schedule. Feels like there is a huge lack of leadership and the program culture is not in the state I personally believed it to be. If by some miracle Beck, Campbell, Gosselin, Haider, Martino, McFaul, Romano all come back, and Gardner gets to campus, we are portal pieces away from being a tournament team or it’s time for a change because it’s not magically going to get better. The passing in general is abysmal and nobody looks to be on the same page and that starts with the lack of confidence our defensemen have with the puck. So many times we rely on getting it deep to get it up to the point to try and find a shooting lane and we rarely score, it shows in the low statistical seasons from a lot of our defenders, especially compared to how they are used. Bottom 6 was horrible all year, provided no threat when on the ice and created no depth throughout our lineup. We need players to improve on their production from year to year, we just aren’t seeing enough progression.

                              • Another season ends in a typical Casey team fashion. Not aggressive until it's too late, no offense generated whatsoever, and a horrid power play. Haider played his ass off this weekend but had nothing to show for it. Hopefully he'll have a better support system around him wherever he goes next year. I know Casey won't be fired, so I'll just hope against all hope that some of these guys go out and grow their game over the summer.
