It sucks losing good players, but we haven’t been to the tournament since Brosseau, Egle, Sturm, Kielly junior year, the core brought in to carry on what they built was Beck, A. Campbell, Haider, Gosselin, Martino, Power, Romano, then the grad transfers we brought in. The core did not work out, we did not meet expectations. I personally would’ve liked to build off them for one more year obviously but it’s the kids right to test the waters. This is where Casey’s connections, and the connections of the staff kick in. Croteau from Haider is not a huge drop off for me, we will get a portal goalie to hopefully compete but Casey loves this kid. Opportunity will be there for transfers to be promised minutes, let’s see what he can do because the pressure is on, it’s not a good look, but it’s reality when you have high expectations and you fall flat on your face, this is the portal era. Hopefully it’s mutually beneficial. For me, Campbell and Haider were tough losses, but easily replaceable, hopefully we get older and stronger and get back to our roots that made us successful.

You are not wrong sir. However, if the coaching staff is honest with the player at YE interview, you tell them whats going on etc Where they stand on depth chart etc..then the player makes an informed decision. So indirectly the staff does push them towards the portal.

I see Rico DiMatteo at Clarkson, Brasher Falls kid at Northern. Forum Goalie.

This is what I meant Dano. ND summed up what I was saying perfectly.

In the Fall 22 edition of the Clarkson magazine is a picture showing "Soupy" Campbell talking to his two scholarship recipients. Alex Campbell and Mathieu Gosselin .
I wonder how "Soupy" feels now

A player that has been mentioned on this forum previously, Zach Dubinsky, son of Clarkson's Steve, is grad transferring to UVM. He spent 2 years at RPI, then transferred to Michigan State, now going to UVM. Numbers at MSU this past season not so hot, 37 games played, 1 goal, 4 assists, -10. Probably don't see a college player playing for 3 different teams (also in 3 different leagues) very often.

They’ve added two from the portal already, it’s very important to get on these things right away, there will be a lot more added to the portal when all the teams are done with their season. Guys I would target….Joey Larson, Albin Nilsson, Hughes brothers (prefer Jack only, would assume it’s a package deal), Reed Lebster, Cal Kiefiuk, on defense it’s Garett Pyke, Luke Krys, Tanner Palocsik, Davis Pennington, Jeremie Bucheler. If everyone in the portal actually leaves our roster flexibility is unbelievable, Buhr left mid season, I’d take a shot in the dark that Croteau, Gardner, Mangan, Moberg, Sigurdson, Rose, Russell is the freshman class I don’t know about Gillespie, and then plus the two portal forwards, we are losing Callin, Campbell, Haider, Klack, JSS, Mobley, Pasanen, Power, Vinal and there could be even more entering the portal as well. I believe Gosselin, McFaul, Romano will stay for the covid year. We need to make guys say no to us, opportunities are there to be taken, I can’t foresee next year being worse, but maybe, and if that does happen that should give us clarity that it’d be time to move on.

I don't know much about the Bruins, honestly I only follow the Rangers in the NHL and Clarkson alumni. However, I have heard that the Bruins have been very impressed with McFaul's focus on defense this year. He really was one Golden Knight who took a big step forward this year, even though his point total isn't there. With their aging roster, I could see them potentially getting him into Providence for the remainder of the year, but the fact that they haven't done so already mutes that potential. The P-Bruins are in line for a playoff run, so if McFaul does go, there will be time for him to get on the ice.

Been saying this for awhile. Casey could have a top 5 recruiting class and it wouldn't matter. Running a program with no development, a nineties offensive scheme and a negative coaching philosophy ( mistake equals bench with no communication) does not work with this generation.
It's also tough to keep quality assistants when you don't let them make any decisions. Brekke, Hauge, Towns. And oh yeah, head coaches leave their cottages in the summer and recruit in the 21st century.

so is Darryl Sutter. we'll see how far they get.

That said, they didn't have a team two years ago and got further than us.

Issac Howard from UMD went into the Portal and he is the one player we should be trying to fish in. 3 years of eligibility, talented and a #31 pick in the NHL draft by Tampa Bay (1st round). Over a 20% shooting percentage as a freshman and tons of upside.
